The 6ix ranks 6th worst in the world for commuting

This likely won’t come as a surprise to anyone who commutes to work — be it by car or transit — but Toronto’s commute ranks among the worst in the world.

The study found that Toronto has the worst commute in North America, worse than New York or Los Angles. And the sixth worst commute in the world.

Talking to drivers around the GTA, they’re not surprised.

“I hate Toronto traffic. Everything is bad. You can’t drive around the city anymore,” Jerry from Mississauga told 680 NEWS.

Randy from Scarborough said you only have to look at our highways to know the survey is right.

“They’re extremely busy and they’re only going to get busier (with) more subdivisions going in,” he said.

The international study compiled data from 74 cities and looked at things like the average commute time and distance, time spent in traffic, wait times for a bus or train, plus the cost of buying a travel card per month compared to your earnings.

The beautiful city of Nice in France took the #1 spot as the best city in the world to commute, with drivers spending only 22 hours stuck in traffic over the span of an entire year.

No North American city cracked the top 10.

Rio de Janeiro was ranked the worst city for commuters, with both the high cost of transit and commute times averaging over 90 minutes each way. Followed by Bogota, Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Salvador and then Toronto.

Miami was the only other North American city in the bottom 10.
