Police name suspect in baseball bat attack of 3 men

By News Staff and The Canadian Press

Halton regional police say a 20-year-old Brampton man is wanted on several charges after a real estate deal went bad and three men were allegedly beaten with bats and sticks.

Investigators say one of the alleged victims brokered a real estate deal between a Brampton property owner and the accused earlier this month and took a deposit from the accused. They allege the property owner subsequently declined the lease offer and asked the alleged victim to return the deposit to the accused.

They say the alleged victim and two friends travelled to a pre-arranged meeting area early Wednesday to return the deposit and were allegedly met by numerous men carrying bats and sticks.

Police say the trio, fearing for their safety, attempted to flee in their vehicle but were allegedly surrounded and assaulted at a red light on Winston Churchill Boulevard and Steeles Avenue in Halton Hills.

Police say two of the alleged victims remain in hospital and in serious but stable condition, while the third victim received minor injuries and is recovering at home.

Investigators say they have seized two vehicles, several sticks and a baton from a Brampton residence on Thursday morning.

Police say 20-year-old Rankirat Singh is wanted on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault cause bodily harm. They are appealing for him to turn himself into police.
