Humboldt Bronco joining GTA college hockey team

A defenceman from the Humboldt Broncos is joining the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s men’s hockey team this fall.

Bryce Fiske officially signed on to play for the Ridgebacks for the 2018-2019 season on Tuesday. He was one of the 13 people injured in a horrific crash involving the junior team’s bus in April. Sixteen people were killed, including the team’s head coach.

In a press release, Fiske said playing university hockey has been a goal of his since he was 17.

“I started my career in La Ronge, my hometown, and was later traded to Humboldt this year, which are two small junior hockey towns. When I flew in yesterday it was a bit of a shock but I will adjust and I am excited and happy to be here,” Fiske said.

Fiske is the second Humboldt Bronco coming to the GTA. Kaleb Dahlgren, who was also injured in April, agreed to play for the York Lions but it’s unclear if he’ll recover in time for the 2018-2019 season.
