Chilina Kennedy launches new Toronto-based musical theatre company

By The Canadian Press

TORONTO – Canadian stage star Chilina Kennedy has co-created a new Toronto-based musical theatre company.

Kennedy, along with fellow Canadian musical theatre artists Evan Tsitsias and Sara-Jeanne Hosie, announced Eclipse Theatre Company on Tuesday.

They say it will feature “unique and innovative theatrical events,” including a production of “Kiss of a Spider Woman” at the former Don Jail in March 2019.

They add the company’s vision is “innovation, creation, education,” with a focus on original stories, new Canadian works and re-configuring the classics.

Every season of ETC will consist of three theatrical experiences: “The Lab,” a new Canadian work, and an “Eclipse Event.”

Kennedy is the artistic producer at ETC while Tsitsias is the artistic director and Hosie is executive director.

“I wanted to maintain my roots and connection to Canada especially at a time when the world is excited by our stories,” Kennedy, who hails from Oromocto, N.B., said in a statement.

“And when you find the right alchemy between collaborators and artistic vision you have to jump at the opportunity. We can’t wait to contribute to the already rich artistic landscape of Toronto’s theatre community.”
