Victim identified in fatal Yonge and Wellington shooting

One man has died as a result of a shooting in Toronto’s downtown core on Sunday night.

Police responded to a call for the sound of gunshots in the Yonge and Wellington Streets area around 9:30 p.m.

When officers arrived they found evidence of gunfire, a man was found near a parking lot with serious injuries and later died.

He has been identified as Jaiden Jackson, 28, of Toronto.

Investigators say the man was leaving the restaurant Pick 6 with an unidentified woman when a car driving south on Jordan Street made a left turn onto Wellington St. heading in the wrong direction. The car then made a quick u-turn and drove towards the man and woman.

Two suspects got out of a black four-door Honda Civic with a sunroof, both armed with a firearm and allegedly started to shoot at the man.

The victim ran down the underground parking ramp at 18 Wellington St. W and was chased by the two suspects and the driver of the Civic. Numerous shots were allegedly fired at the victim.

Police say the three suspects fled from the scene and are believed to be armed.
