Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in Ajax

A 32-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle in Ajax.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Rossland Road at Westney Road around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Durham police, a Nissan Versa was heading eastbound on Rossland when the pedestrian “appeared in the roadway and was struck.”

Police said the victim was not crossing at a crosswalk and that conditions were clear but dark at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene.

There has been no word on charges.

The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigated. It has since reopened.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anyone with information on the incident to call 1-888-579-1520) ext. 5226.

The man paid the ultimate penalty for jaywalking. Charges are unlikely against the driver.

@Alpha_Mora: yet another driver who has to go through their lives with this horror forever burned into their minds. People are always in a huge rush to get to their graves these days, slow down and obey the laws and rules, laws and rules are there mostly because someone else paid with their lives to create that law or rule.
