Wynne delivers what could be her last speech as premier at Queen’s Park

Kathleen Wynne made what could be her last speech as premier at Queen’s Park on the final sitting day of the Ontario Legislature.

On Wednesday, the writ will be dropped and the election process will officially get underway.

Before that happens, MPPs met one last time in the legislature, taking care of some last-minute business.

Wynne started the day by making a speech about her accomplishments during her time as premier.

She also addressed a question posed to her by Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford during #CityVote: The Debate on Monday — how she lost her way.

“Last night I was asked a question that has stuck with me and I was thinking about it overnight Mr. Speaker, and you know how at 3:30 in the morning you come up with the best answers? Yeah, well that was me,” Wynne said with a chuckle before getting serious.

“I haven’t lost my way. I’ve never lost my way.”

When asked how she felt about this possibly being her last speech ever as premier, Wynne told the media that’s something she’s trying to not think about.

“I hope it’s not, but I really wanted to make it clear today who I am and what I stand for,” she said.

She also wouldn’t say if it would be the end of her political career should she lose the election.

“I’m just thinking about June 7th,” she said. “I’ve got a lot of work to do between now and June 7th. We’ll talk on June 8th.”

But the numbers aren’t looking good for the Liberal leader.

A CityNews poll following Monday night’s debate found only 14 per cent of people said they would vote for Wynne on election day.
