Toronto Public Health is investigating a case of measles in an infant who recently travelled abroad and warning that some people may have been exposed.
Officals say the infant was on a Saudi Airlines flight from Delhi, India to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on April 29 before boarding a second Saudi Airlines flight to Toronto on April 30.
The health agency adds people may also have been exposed on May 4 at Pediatric Outpatient Services at Humber River Hospital between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Measles is a highly contagious disease and anyone who has not had two doses of a measles vaccine or who has not had measles in the past is at risk of infection. Symptoms include a high fever, sore eyes or sensitivity to light and a red rash lasting four to seven days.
Infants under one year of age, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems can get extremely ill with measles.
