Fire outside Ajax Canadian Tire deemed suspicious

A massive fire outside a Canadian Tire in Ajax is being deemed suspicious.
Emergency crews were called to the store on Kingston Road around 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
The fire is being deemed suspicious because it started on the outside of the building and no source of ignition was present, said Paul Ritchie, platoon chief of Ajax Fire and Emergency Services. The blaze broke out in a fenced storage area next to the garage.
Ritchie said the fire was difficult for crews to fight at first because the storage area contained tires, oil, anti-freeze & propane tanks.
“There were some tanks that did explode, but they were contained within the storage tank, so it kept everything in check,” said Ritchie.
Crews were able to knock down the heavy flames quickly.
No injuries were reported.
