2 injured, driver facing impaired charges after Scarborough crash

Two people are in hospital and a driver is facing alcohol-related charges after a single-vehicle crash in Scarborough.

Emergency crews were called to Markham Road and Progress Avenue, south of Highway 401, just before 1:30 a.m. on Friday.

It appears the vehicle jumped the curb, crashed into a couple of newspaper boxes before crashing into a sign at the top of a small hill.

Toronto police said all three occupants of the vehicle were outside the car when emergency crews arrived.

Paramedics said a man and a woman, both in their 20s, and passengers in the vehicle, were rushed to hospital with serious to life-threatening head injuries.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was arrested by police.

Progress Avenue was closed for several hours while police investigated.
