2 arrested after rampant car vandalism in Cabbagetown

Two men are facing multiple charges after rampant car vandalism was reported in Cabbagetown.

Area residents say the vandalism, which included slashed tires, broken windows and cars being spray painted, have happened over the last six weeks.

Mike, who lives in Cabbagetown, told CityNews he had to replace three tires on two cars — to the tune of $1,600.

“My neighbours had to get four (new tires) and she just bought her winter tires. It’s very, very frustrating and very, very upsetting,” he explained.

Police said around 4 a.m. on Monday, officers were in the Cabbagetown area and noticed some suspicious behaviour.

They reported seeing two people enter and damage vehicles which were parked along Sackville Street.
When officers approached, the suspects ran.

After a brief pursuit, the men were arrested.

Police said both suspects had a knife and an ice pick-like instrument on them at the time of arrest.
Estuardo Anfree Rivas, 21, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with five counts of mischief/damage to property not exceeding $5000, as well as theft, possession of break-and-enter instruments and carrying a concealed weapon.

Samson Bambino Carter, 18, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with five counts of mischief/damage to property not exceeding $5000 and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police are asking members of the public to continue being aware and vigilant of suspicious activity and contact police to report any behaviour they find suspicious.

As well, investigators would still like residents to review their personal home security systems and send any video to police that may have captured vehicles being damaged or any other suspicious activity or persons.
