Toronto man charged in connection to Royal York subway station vandalism

A 48-year-old Toronto man has been charged in connection with an act of vandalism that disrupted service on the Bloor-Danforth subway line for hours Friday.

Toronto police say Pawel Grodkowski is facing 16 charges in connection to two mischief investigations.

Police allege he entered the tunnel at Royal York subway station and damaged 10 TTC track switches.

According to TTC spokesperson Brad Ross, signal issues were identified around 5:30 a.m. Shuttle buses were brought in to transfer commuters between Jane and Kipling stations until officials were able to resume service around noon.

Police say Grodkowski was arrested several hours later, and was in possession of tools they believe were used to damage the track switches.

Grodkowski is also charged in connection to a mischief incident that happened on January 7th. Police allege he entered a fenced area in the East Mall and Queensway area and cut cables powering an airport beacon.

Grodkowski has been charged with:

1) ten counts of Mischief Interfere with Lawful Enjoyment of Property
2) Mischief Endanger Life
3) two counts of Possession of Break-In Instruments
4) two counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
5) Break-and-Enter with Intent

Grodkowski appeared in court Saturday morning.
