Is a World Cup bid good for business?

Mayor John Tory wants Toronto to take a kick at co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but not everyone thinks a bid is good business for the city.

It would cost Toronto between $30-$45 million to co-host along with Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal.

Mayor Tory thinks that’s a drop in the bucket in light of the international exposure the city would receive for hosting three to five games at BMO Field. Tory said he would also seek financial assistance from the provincial and federal governments.

We asked for your opinion, and it quickly became clear that many have reservations. From fears of ballooning costs, to those who simply feel the money spent could be better prioritized, many were vocal about their opposition to the idea.
