4 artists resign amid sex assault allegations against Soulpepper, Schultz

Four artists at Soulpepper Theatre Company have resigned, a day after sexual assault allegations were levelled against the company and its founding artistic director, Albert Schultz.

St. Lawrence Barristers LLP, counsel to the artists, announced Thursday that Ted Dykstra, Stuart Hughes, Michelle Monteith, and Rick Roberts have resigned in support of the women.

“These artists support and stand with the brave women who have come forward to end the culture of silence that has existed at Soulpepper under Mr. Schultz. They believe the allegations made by these women,” Alexi Wood of St. Lawrence Barristers LLP said in a statement.

The lawsuits naming Soulpepper and Schultz were filed this week by Patricia Fagan, Hannah Miller, Kristin Booth and Diana Bentley, who have all agreed to be named publicly.

In the lawsuits, the actresses allege the 54-year-old Schultz exposed himself, groped them, and otherwise sexually humiliated them.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

According to the law firm, the four artists will not work at Soulpepper until “Schultz has no role with the company.”

The artists will be joining the women at a news conference later on Thursday.
