SIU investigating after man with weapon killed in Mississauga

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal shooting in Mississauga involving Peel regional police early Saturday morning.

Peel police responded to a call at a residence in the Rathburn and Tomken Roads area for a man with a weapon at around 12:30 a.m.

When they arrived on scene, police say the man had already left the area but was later found on Torino Crescent. After an “interaction”, an officer shot his firearm and the man was struck.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital without vital signs and pronounced dead.

The SIU has taken over the investigation. The agency says one officer is the subject of the investigation, and five others witnessed the interaction.

No further information regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting have been made available at this time.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
