1 man dead in shooting at downtown apartment building

A 52-year-old man is dead following an early morning shooting at a downtown apartment building.

Officers responded after sounds of gunshots were reported around 12:30 a.m. in the Henry Lane Terrace and Esplanade area, near Jarvis Street.

Police say four gunshots were heard along with screaming and yelling from the fourth floor of the complex.

Police attempted to revive the lifeless body of the victim, but he was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators have not identified the victim but say he lived in the apartment where he was found.

While investigators would not speculate on a motive, Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone says the shooting has the earmarks of a “targeted shooting.”

Police have not yet released a suspect description but say they are reviewing surveillance video in the area.

This is Toronto’s 61st homicide of the year.
