One man is dead after a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 at Martin Grove Road.
The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. on Monday.
It appears a car slowed down or stopped when it was rear-ended by the tractor-trailer, which was carrying steel plates.
Paramedics said the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim is a 56-year-old Toronto man. His name has not been released.
The westbound lanes were closed at Martin Grove for several hours, but reopened just after 10:15 a.m.
The crash comes as the OPP is cracking down on unsafe trucks. A safety blitz targeting commercial vehicles started at 8:30 a.m.
Police have responded to a number of crashes involving large trucks this fall — including one on Highway 400 last month that involved four big rigs and left three people dead.
