A 32-year-old Toronto man has been charged after he allegedly posed as a York Regional Police officer online.
Police said the investigation was launched on Nov. 18 when it was reported a man was asking people he had befriended on social media for money. Police said he was posting images of police equipment and paraphernalia, as well as pictures of himself in a police uniform.
On Wednesday, search warrants were executed at a Scarborough home and investigators said items were seized that are consistent with the impersonation of a police officer.
Di “Jason” Yu has been charged with two counts of impersonating a peace officer.
Police are asking anyone who has had contact with Yu to come forward.
