Trudeau tweet brings out polarizing views on marijuana legalization

It was a key part of his successful bid to become the Prime Minister of Canada, and on Monday night, Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to boast that his ambitious and controversial plan to legalize and regulate marijuana came an important step closer to fruition.

“We’re one step closer to legalizing & regulating marijuana,” the PM tweeted. “Bill C45 means less money for organized crime and harder access for our kids. Tonight, it passed third reading in the House and it’s now headed to the Senate.”

Despite a recent survey that found about 68 per cent of Canadians favour legalization, the reaction to Trudeau’s tweet highlighted the barrage of polarizing views that continue to surround the issue.

From staunch support, to concerns about marijuana psychosis in children and impaired driving, Canadians flooded the PM’s feed with their thoughts.
