#TBT: 25 years since ‘flag flap’ at 1992 World Series

Before the Toronto Blue Jays made history by becoming the first Canadian team to win the World Series, baseball fans will remember the great ‘flag flap’ that raised the ire of Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast in 1992.

Game 2 of the Fall Classic was hosted by the Braves on Oct. 18, 1992, and as Canadians watched the pregame ceremony, glued to their television sets, they saw a U.S. Marine Colour Guard carrying an upside down Canadian flag onto the field at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

Television stations were flooded with phone calls from irate viewers complaining about the blunder.

Watch the video above for a look back at CityNews’ coverage of the ‘flag flap’ of ’92.
