Toronto Zoo euthanizes sick snow leopard

By 680 NEWS

Sad news from the Toronto Zoo.

It has announced the death of its 14-year-old snow leopard ‘Kota.’

In a statement posted to Facebook, the zoo says the animal wasn’t walking properly about two weeks ago and his condition quickly deteriorated.

The zoo says the big cat began to experience paralysis in the hind end, and blindness, leading to the decision to euthanize him.

Kota came to the Toronto Zoo when he was one year old.

He fathered three litters of cubs, including the snow leopard cubs born earlier this year.

An autopsy showed age-related health issues, including early kidney disease and degenerative brain lesions.

The zoo says those are common in older cats.
