TORONTO – Canadian Opera Company general director Alexander Neef has once again extended his contract.
The COC says Neef’s tenure as general director will now stretch through to the end of September 2026.
In 2012, he announced he’d renewed his contract as general director through the 2020/2021 season.
The German-born impresario began his tenure in October 2008, assuming the position left vacant by the death of Richard Bradshaw.
Neef’s latest contract extension was announced on Monday at the COC’s annual general meeting, where it reported a modest surplus of $11,000.
“Alexander’s visionary artistic leadership has significantly advanced our company’s international profile and reputation,” COC board chair Colleen Sexsmith said Monday in part of a statement on his contributions.
Neef said the last decade at the COC has been “the most important, challenging, and rewarding” of his career.
“What is imperative in the years to come is that we not only maintain, but exceed that level of excellence,” he added.
