Driver, 28, dies after his car collides head-on with school bus carrying rugby team

By The Canadian Press and News Staff

Police say a 28-year-old man is dead after his car hit a school bus carrying a team of rugby players Friday.

Durham Regional Police say they responded to a call about a collision between a car and a school bus at about 5 p.m. Friday, after reports that a black Infinity was driving aggressively in a rural area north of Oshawa, Ont.

They say the car veered suddenly into the opposing lane and hit the school bus head-on.

Investigators say that none of the 16 people on the school bus were hurt, but the driver of the black car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Police have not released the name of the deceased.

Investigators say they’re looking to speak with the driver of a white cargo van that was travelling southbound in front of the Infinity just prior to the collision.

Police believe drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, as weather conditions were clear at the time.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police.
