Pedestrian struck and killed in Markham

A 62-year-old man has died after he was struck by a vehicle in Markham on Monday night.

York regional police were called to Markham Road and Denison Street, near Steeles Avenue East, just before 11 p.m.

The man was rushed to hospital where he later died.

The driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old man from Toronto, remained at the scene. It is not yet known if any charges will be laid.

Investigators are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision, to come forward.

Police say alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision.
