Police say the animal remains discovered in an Etobicoke park on Saturday were those of a cat, not a dog as previously thought.
Police initially tweeted out that the grisly discovery was a dog and it appeared the animal had been skinned.
Police told CityNews on Sunday the animal was a cat buried in a shallow grave that other animals likely dug up. They said there was nothing suspicious about the discovery and no criminal charges are being laid.
PC candidate for Etobicoke-Lakeshore Christine Hogarth first told Citynews she found the remains around 9 a.m. Saturday while walking her dog in Grand Avenue Park in the area of Park Lawn Road and the Gardiner Expressway.
“I normally take my dog for a walk here and when we came to this area you could see there was a hole in the ground and there was a blue towel on the ground and there was a whole bunch of patches of hair,” said Hogarth, “About a metre and a half away there was this carcass and it was skinned.”
A police investigation concluded there was no criminality involved.
