When an Apple is really a lemon: Police warn of fake iPhones being sold online

It’s touted as the latest, greatest version of Apple’s now ubiquitous smartphone, but if you snagged your iPhone 7 Plus on Kijiji, you may be holding a lemon.

That’s the warning from Toronto police, who say imitation gold iPhone 7 Plus’ are being sold online, bilked big bucks from unsuspecting consumers.

Police say the fake phones look identical to the real thing, but don’t have authentic Apple software.

“The public is advised to remain vigilant when buying these cellphones and to take all precautions to ensure the cellphone is authentic,” Toronto police said in a release.

The fakes phones are sold in sealed packaging and even have serial numbers verified by Apple as authentic.

The serial numbers on the fake phones are #C39T6R6AHFXY and IMEI #359176076852917.
