Suspects sought in attempted abduction of 10-year-old Pickering boy

By News Staff

Durham police are searching for at least two suspects in the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old boy in Pickering.

Police say the young boy was riding his bike home westbound on Amberlea Road near Napanee Road around 6 p.m. Sunday night when a van pulled up beside him.

The boy claims the driver showed him some candy and a toy and said he could have them if he got into the van.

The boy refused and fled home on his bike through a field near St. Mary’s Catholic School where he informed his parents who then called police.

The suspect is described as white, between 35 to 40 years of age with brown eyes, yellow teeth, a deep voice and a scruffy appearance. He was wearing a grey hoodie with a black toque and a gold ring and chain.

There is no description available for the second suspect in the van.

The van is described as a white Ford work van with scratches on the front, rust on the back and a tinted rear window.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
