Man accused of taking a selfie with live duck on Barrie beach

By News Staff

A Barrie man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly held a duck by the neck while taking a selfie.

The police marine unit was patrolling the area around Johnston’s Beach on Sunday afternoon when they noticed two men drinking alcohol and causing a disturbance.

The Barrie officers said they also saw one of the men holding a duck by its neck and taking a picture with it.

Police said the men’s actions had drawn attention from other people enjoying the beach. Some of those people allegedly approached the men to tell them their behaviour was inappropriate and unsettling.

The marine unit contacted other officers, who approached the pair on the beach and asked them for identification.

Police said one of the men gave a false last name. Once his real name was confirmed, police learned he was wanted on multiple warrants from Thunder Bay. He was also under a condition to not consume alcohol.

The 34-year-old man was charged with obstruction, cruelty to animals, and failure to comply with recognizance.

The other man was not charged.

Police said the duck was not injured in the incident.
