Inmate injured, partial lockdown ordered after assault at N.B. prison

RENOUS, N.B. – An inmate was taken to hospital after an assault at a maximum-security prison in New Brunswick.

Officials at the federal Atlantic Institution in Renous say the victim was found injured last Thursday around 10 p.m.

Assistant warden Nicole Gaudet says the inmate was evaluated by staff and taken to an outside hospital for treatment.

No other staff members or inmates were injured.

The RCMP and the institution are investigating the incident and the warden has ordered a partial lockdown of the prison.
