A Brampton man is facing charges in what Peel police are calling a hate-motivated crime after a man was allegedly attacked while standing in his driveway.
Police said a man was driving in the area of Centre Street and Williams Parkway on Sunday when he stopped his car in front of the victim’s driveway and – unprovoked – started yelling racial slurs at the victim before attacking him.
The 31-year-old victim was taken to hospital and treated for serious facial injuries.
Matthew Wight, 28, is charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of breach of recognizance.
If convicted and it is proven to be motivated by hate or bias, higher penalties may be imposed by the judge during sentencing.
