BOSTON – A lawyer who entertained U.S. radio listeners with brief tales of interesting court cases has died. Neil Chayet was 78.

Chayet’s family says he died Friday at his home in Salem, Massachusetts, after battling cancer.

Chayet recorded more than 10,000 episodes of “Looking at the Law,” which aired for more than four decades. The segment began on Boston’s WEEI-AM in the mid-1970s, switched to WBZ-AM and was nationally syndicated.

The Harvard Law School graduate’s radio tales followed a template: He would introduce his segment by drawing out the L’s in its title, give a punchy summary of a quirky or interesting legal case and almost always end with a pun.

Chayet retired in June due to his illness. He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.
