Durham regional police tell 680 NEWS three people have died of suspected drug overdoses on Friday morning.

Two men were discovered deceased at a highrise apartment complex on Falby Court in Ajax at around 3:40 a.m. One of the men was in his 30s and the other was in his 40s. Police say drug paraphernalia was found inside the apartment.

At around 6:40 a.m., a man in his 20s was found dead inside a Bowmanville home. Police say drugs were involved in all three deaths.

“The coroner has requested a post-mortem to be conducted,” said Const. George Tudos. “At this point we know they are drug-related overdoses and we suspect that it may be fentanyl.”

The Greater Toronto Area has seen a disturbing rash of overdoses this summer, with fentanyl-laced heroin suspected in several recent deaths.

The spike in overdoses prompted Toronto police to recently issue a public safety alert.
