Toronto police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect after a puppy was found wrapped in a plastic bag in a garbage can.
On July 11, a passerby walked past the garbage can and heard yelps coming from inside. When he looked inside he discovered sealed plastic bags which contained a three-month-old puppy.
He ripped open the bag to rescue the puppy and then took the animal to a nearby veterinarian.
Police say security footage shows a suspect near Lawrence Avenue West and Dufferin Street around 3:40 p.m. on the same day.
The man was seen walking on Dane Avenue, towards Lawrence Square shopping centre, carrying a dark bag. According to police, he then walked towards the northwest doors of the plaza, discarded the bag in the garbage can and then entered the plaza.
Police said the man made a few stops in the plaza and then exited through the same doors he had entered from. He continued west on Dane Avenue and out of view of the security camera.
The suspect is described as between five-foot-11 and six feet tall, with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, grey shorts, and black shoes with white socks. He was also carrying a black shoulder bag.
Police have released security images of the suspect, who is wanted for animal cruelty.
