Ontario Fire Marshal to investigate suspicious fire at Brampton church

By News Staff

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate a suspicious fire at a Brampton church.

Fire crews were called to St. Elias Ukrainian Church on Heritage Road around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The minor fire was quickly extinguished, however, officials deemed the fire suspicious and called in the fire marshal to investigate.

A fire destroyed the same church in 2014. It was rebuilt and reopened in October 2016.

Meanwhile, Peel Regional Police are also investigating several structures which were set on fire at different locations along Humber Station Road in Brampton.

Peel police told CityNews those fires are believed to be related although not connected to the church. They would not say if any of the fires are the work of an arsonist.
