Syrian human rights group confirms death of ISIS leader: report

By News staff

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it has “confirmed information” that ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi has been killed, Reuters reports.

It’s not clear yet if he was killed in a Russian-led mission back in May.

Last month, reports out of Moscow said that air strikes killed Al-Baghdadi in the terror group’s de facto capital of Raqqa, in northern Syria.

Local media are reporting ISIS has confirmed his death and that his successor will be announced soon.

There has been no confirmation yet from the U.S. or the Iraqi government.
