Woman, 76, critically injured in hit-and-run crash in Ajax

By News Staff

A hit-and-run crash in Ajax has left a 76-year-old woman with critical injuries.

Durham regional police say she was crossing Williamson Drive near Salem Road around 10 p.m. on July 2 when she was hit by a car.

The driver was heading east on Williamson at the time of the crash. Witnesses also said the driver did slow down, but did not stop, heading south on Salem. Speed may have been a factor.

Ten days later, on July 12, police said the woman remained in hospital. Police are searching for the driver as well as a red 2016 Mazda 3, with front-end damage.

Police had initially said they were looking for a white, mid-size sedan, possibly a Toyota or Honda, that was eastbound on Willisamson at the time of the crash. Earlier in the investigation, police believed the red Mazda was following the white sedan, and may have been “directly or indirectly involved.”

Police now believe it was the driver of the red Mazda that hit the woman.
