Beer Store introduces home delivery in east-end Toronto, Ottawa

By News staff

The Beer Store has launched store-to-door delivery and it will be tested out in east-end Toronto and Ottawa.

The delivery zones were unveiled on the BeerXpress website early on Tuesday morning.

The trial project, which started Tuesday, is called “Beer Xpress.” Customers will be able to order online or through an app, and have the beer delivered to their home within two hours. The wait time may be affected during busy periods or road conditions.

“This new service makes the customer shopping experience more convenient, as it gives them access to the 800-plus brands from over 200 brewers that are available in the Beer Store,” spokesman Mario DiPaolo said at a morning news conference.

According to the website, the delivery area in the city’s east end is bounded by Coxwell Avenue from Lake Ontario and north to Danforth Avenue, Victoria Park Avenue from Danforth to Highway 401, and Morningside Avenue from the lakeshore to Highway 401.

The delivery cost will vary by the order size. The base delivery fee for the Scarborough area is $8.

DiPaolo said the delivery drivers will be licensed through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. The drivers will ask for identification and ensure the customer is not intoxicated.

He said officials will review the pilot project’s progress before they decide to expand the delivery zones.

Beer Xpress was launched last June, allowing people to order the products online and pick them up at a store. The LCBO started offering home delivery last year.
