York Region police officer again charged for sex assault

By News Staff

A York Region police officer convicted last year of sexual assault and placed on the national sex offender registry has been charged again.

Last November, York Regional Police asked the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to probe complaints it received from a 26-year-old woman, who said she was sexually assaulted by an officer between August and December of 2014.

After investigating, the SIU charged Const. Young Min von Seefried, 35, with two counts each of sexual assault and breach of trust by a public officer.

The SIU arrested von Seefried on Thursday and he appeared in a Newmarket court. His bail hearing was adjourned until July 13.

Last November, the married father of two was convicted of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman during a traffic stop in Richmond Hill in January 2014.

He was sentenced to 16 months in jail and suspended without pay.

Von Seefried has been a member of the force since May 2006.
