Family pleads for information after man shot multiple times in Flemingdon Park

The brother of a man shot multiple times, seemingly at random, is calling on his community for help in apprehending the attempted murderers.

Samuel Taylor, 25, was trying to fix his car after it broke down on the side of the road near Vendome Place and Grenoble Drive in Flemingdon Park, around 10 p.m. on April 13.

According to police, as Taylor walked away from the car he was approached by two armed men who shot at him multiple times.

“Each of the two men was armed with handguns and one of the men immediately opened fire on Mr. Taylor,” Det.-Sgt. Jim Gotell told the media on Friday.

“The second suspect also fired his weapon.”

Taylor was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he received life-saving surgeries.

His brother, David Taylor, is imploring anyone in the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of these two men.

“Oh behalf of my family — the Taylor family — our extended family and close friends, I’m urging, I’m imploring, that if anyone in the Flemingdon Park or Thorncliffe Park communities have any information regarding the shooting … to come forward and aid Toronto police in this investigation,” he pleaded as he spoke to the media on Friday.

“Gun violence has never affected this family before and we honestly don’t know what to do,” Taylor continued. “All we know is that we almost lost a dear family member for, what seems like, no reason at all.”

Toronto police have released security video that shows the shooting, both suspects and the two vehicles in which the suspects fled the area.

“It is hoped that one or both of the suspects, or the vehicles, will be recognized by a member of the public,” Gotell explained.

The suspects, when apprehended, will be charged with attempted murder.

The victim’s family hopes these men can be apprehended before anyone else is hurt.

“My family and I are glad Samuel is alive but, personally, what keeps me up at night, what keeps all of us at night, is the fact that these men are still at large and their guns can be used again on anyone they choose.” Taylor said.

“This widespread violence is causing irreparable damage and it’s tearing families apart.”

This is the fourth shooting in the last five months in this neighbourhood.

In January, a car was found in an underground garage that had been shot at several times.

In February, a man was seriously injured in a daylight shooting after he stumbled into a convenience store saying he’d been shot.

Also in February, an 18-year-old was shot in the leg after an incident near Don Mills Road and Gateway Plaza. Three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

On March 13, a 15-year-old boy was walking home after playing basketball when he was approached by two men who then fired a weapon at him. The teen suffered only minor injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information on any of these crimes to contact investigators at 416-808-5400 or Crime Stoppers.
