A 33-year-old man is dead after he was gunned down on a residential street in Brampton on Thursday night.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. on Desert Sand Drive, near Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road.

“His dad came out from somewhere near their house and just seemed dazed,” a neighbour told 680 NEWS. “I kept repeating, ‘What happened?’ … and then finally his father replied, ‘They came. Pow, pow. They shot my son,'”

The man was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, and he was pronounced dead soon after.

A vehicle was found with several bullet holes in the driver’s side doors and windows. However, it is not clear where the man was shot.

“We are still trying to determine if he was in the vehicle or outside the vehicle,” Const. Harinder Sohi said.

Witnesses told police they saw a dark-coloured vehicle leaving the scene, but police are investigating if the vehicle was related to the shooting.

Police are hoping residents in the area have surveillance video that can help detectives identify the vehicle and the shooter.
