Kidnapping, forcible confinement charges withdrawn against Uber driver

Update, Nov. 30, 2018: The charges against Sukhbaj Singh were withdrawn at the request of the Crown, according to a court document dated July 31, 2018.

A 24-year-old Uber driver is facing charges after a woman was allegedly abducted over the long weekend.

Police were called to the Eglinton Avenue East and Dunfienld Avenue area near Yonge Street just after 4 p.m. on Sunday.

It was reported that an 18-year-old woman had ordered an Uber and during the ride the driver engaged her in “inappropriate conversation.”

He then allegedly made unwanted advances toward the woman.

According to police, she refused his advances and asked to be let out of the car but the driver refused. He then tried to take her to a private location.

The woman escaped and called police.

On Monday morning, Sukhbaj Singh, of Belleville, was arrested and has been charged with forcible confinement, kidnapping and assault.
