ETF responds to ‘person in crisis’ on College Street

By News Staff

Emergency Task Force (ETF) members attended a call for a “person in crisis” near the Kensington Market area on Monday.

The incident occurred at College Street and Augusta Avenue at around 5 p.m.

Eye witnesses tell CityNews a man allegedly assaulted a woman in a nearby hostel. The woman was allegedly choked and her face was bloodied.

As people heard her cries for help, the man reportedly jumped off a balcony from the hostel and down the street, pursued by three other men. He then allegedly ran back, scaled the building and attempted to hide on the rooftop.

College street was briefly down to one lane of traffic in each direction, but reopened by around 5:30 p.m.

Police say ETF were called in because a trained negotiator is part of their team. The Mobile Crisis intervention Team (MCIT) was also on scene. The team includes a mental health nurse and a specially trained police officer who respond to calls involving individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.

Further details about the incident were not released.
