Suspect threatens victims with a gun in 6 east-end robberies

By News staff

Toronto police have released security camera images and video of a man wanted in connection with six robberies in the city’s east end.

In all of the incidents, the suspect pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded money. In two of the cases, he covered his face.

The most recent robbery happened at 11 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the Midland subway station. Police say a man, who covered his face with a surgical-style mask, approached a TTC collector. He racked his gun three times and demanded money, fleeing after the cash was handed over.

Four of the other incidents happened last year.

Around 9 a.m. on Dec. 10, a man robbed a bank near Old Kingston Road and Military Trail. His covered his face with a surgical-style mask and also wore a yellow construction helmet and vest. After getting money from the teller, he fled the area in an older-model black Toyota Corolla.

Police also allege the same man robbed two beer stores on two separate occasions. In both cases, a store employee handed over the money after being threatened with a gun.

The first beer store robbery happened on Nov. 27 at a store in the Morningside Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East area. The man fled the area on a bicycle. The second one took place on Dec. 6 in the Lawrence Avenue East and Port Union Road area. The suspect got away in a vehicle.

The suspect’s other two alleged robberies happened at two Sheppard Avenue East retail shops in August 2016. In both cases, he propped the door open with a stick. He made away on foot with money, cigarettes, and lottery tickets.

Police describe the man as brown in his mid-20s, and between five-foot six and five-foot-eight. He has long hair possibly worn in dreadlocks, cornrows, or an Afro style.
