A Peel Region Police officer is facing charges of assault and sexual assault.
Constable Prabhjot Singh, who has been with the force for two years and was assigned to general patrol, has been suspended with pay.
Few details have been released concerning the investigation other than the victim and accused know each other.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit was notified of the incident but chose not to invoke their mandate in this case.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Singh is scheduled to appear in court May 29.
