Man accused of deliberately setting 4 fires in downtown Toronto

A Toronto man is facing charges after he allegedly set fires in the city’s downtown core over the weekend.

Police say four separate fires broke out within an hour on Sunday evening. Police said the fires happened a short time before and after 6 p.m.

Two of the fires were inside dumpsters, one at 255 Wellington Street W. and another at 50 John St. A third fire was also reported at 400 Front St. W. inside a car. It is not known where the fourth fire occurred.

Police issued a public safety alert at the time. The suspect was also captured on security camera video.

Steven James Pusztai, 54, of no fixed address, was arrested on Monday. He has been charged with three counts of arson and three counts of breach of probation. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
