A 22-year-old man who went missing from Ontario Shores mental health centre in Whitby on Sunday evening has been found safe.
The man’s mother said she got a call from the owner of Southside Eatery in Ajax, who said the man had been hanging around the plaza since Monday.
The owner, named Laurie, had apparently offered the man food, though he didn’t take it. She said he was nothing but respectful.
Two other women who work in the plaza also called police to inform them the man was there.
“This is an amazing example of how wonderful human beings can be,” the man’s mother said.
“She had no fear or judgement towards my son. She was a caring, wonderful person towards [my son] worried that he might be lost. I am eternally grateful. My son is safe now.”
