The charge against a Pickering man accused in the death of his pregnant wife has been upgraded to first-degree murder.

The body of Arianna Goberdhan, 27, of Ajax, was found at a home on Winville Road in Pickering around 9:45 p.m. last Friday. She was nine months pregnant and the baby did not survive.

An autopsy showed Goberdhan was stabbed to death.

Her husband, Nicholas Tyler Baig, 25, was arrested at a home in Markham late Saturday night. At the time, he was charged with second-degree murder.

Baig appeared in court on Thursday, where he faced the upgraded murder charge.

On Monday, Durham police said the car belonging to Baig was located on Lee Avenue in Toronto, near Queen Street and Woodbine Avenue. Police told CityNews the vehicle was found by parking enforcement officers.

The visitation and funeral for Goberdhan was held on in Ajax on Thursday.
