Quebec officials to probe police role in 18-year-old woman’s homicide

Quebec’s bureau for independent investigations into police operations says it will examine the role of a municipal force following the slaying of an 18-year-old woman.

Daphne Boudreault died in hospital after her badly beaten body was found in a home Wednesday in Mont-St-Hilaire, southeast of Montreal.

Her work colleagues have told various media the young woman feared her ex-boyfriend and that local police met previously with both the victim and the ex.

They allege police said they were powerless to act.

Provincial police are conducting the homicide investigation and say a 22-year-old man is expected to appear in court Thursday in St-Hyacinthe.

Several media reports have identified the man as Anthony Pratte, Boudreault’s ex-boyfriend.

Pratte posted two videos to Facebook, just hours before Boudreault was found dead. In each of the videos, he appears agitated about their recent breakup.

Meanwhile, the independent bureau, known by the French acronym BEI, has assigned five investigators to examine the work of officers with the Richelieu Saint-Laurent intermunicipal police force and the events leading to the slaying.
