Man shot dead while driving in Vaughan, car crashes into pole

York regional police are appealing for witnesses after a 26-year-old Ajax man was shot and killed while driving early Thursday morning in Vaughan.
Police believe the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. at Highway 7 and Interchange Way, near Jane Street.
It appears the driver of a white BMW, who police have identified as Laquan Lyew, was stopped at the lights when he was shot. He then veered off the road and crashed into a pole a short distance away.
He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
It’s not yet clear how many shots were fired at the victim, but there were at least 16 evidence markers on the road.
One guest at a nearby hotel told 680 NEWS he heard about five gunshots. Bullet holes could be seen in the driver’s side of the car.
There’s no word yet on suspects.
Police are asking residents and business owners in the area who have may security video to contact them.
