Mississauga city council has approved an 18 month pilot project for Transportation Network Companies (TNC) operating within the city.
A plan formulated by The Public Vehicle Pilot Program Committee to regulate TNCs like Uber, allowing them to operate within the city and serve and employ residents, has been approved. The committee was originally formed in March 2016.

Mayor Bonnie Crombie said the committee worked with council, industry stakeholders, residents as well as Mississauga’s professional staff to “bring forward a responsible, balanced and much needed made-in-Mississauga plan that ensures public safety, consumer protection and works for taxpayers.”
In order to better allow taxi and limousine industries to compete with TNCs, the plan also proposes changes to existing public vehicle regulations.
The TNC Pilot Project will reportedly have no financial impact on the City and full cost recovery will be achieved through enforcement activities.
The project will span 18 months in total, from July 1, 2017 until December 31, 2018
